Set-up in 2004, Sterling Nonwovens set out converting technical textiles for use in innovative or niche applications. An instantly valuable group asset, Sterling would recycle surplus fabrics and use them in the manufacture of alternative performance materials, significantly reducing the cost of waste at partner company BFF.

The company brought on different capabilities, operated within new markets and quickly established expertise in the manufacture and supply of bespoke technical fabrics for niche applications. The acquisition of Lantor in 2012 resulted in big changes within the group including Sterling. In a divisional shake-up, the company moved north to Bolton and expanded operations to include the supply of all fabrics for commercial and industrial applications. It was a move that eventually saw Sterling become the industrial division for the Nonwovenn group.
